The first task of swedish universities are research, the other is teaching and the third task is cooperation. Collaboration with the community and information about what we do is in a way not a separate task, but more of a mindset that should permeate our daily work.
At Valand, interaction with the world outside of school is a natural part of our education, perhaps primarily through all the exhibitions that the school's students and staff participate in. The exhibitions are organized both as part of teaching and presentation of courses and workshops, but can also be initiatives by individual students or teachers. The exhibitions are displayed both at the school, at our galleries Rotor and Rotor2, and in places outside the school. Examples of all the exhibitions that teachers and students participate in outside of school can be found here>>.
In line with the university's efforts to broaden recruitment Valand is involved in several projects in Gothenburg northeastern districts. We have been cooperating for years with BOB cultural association in Bergsjön, and in Backa and Hammarkullen are new projects in the pipeline.
One of Valand links out to the community is our alumni, all former students who now are active artists. These are an important resource for the school and many come back here as teachers or lecturers. However, interaction with alumni can come in many different ways and we are working to expand contacts with our alumni.
